[57] The goal of contract interpretation is to determine the intent of the parties and the scope of their understanding at the time the contract was made. To do so, the contract must be read as a whole. Words are to be given their ordinary and grammatical meaning. The contract and the words are to be read in a manner consistent with the surrounding circumstances known to the parties at the time of formation of the contract. Sattva Capital Corp. v.
